Formentera unveils Employment and Enterprise Fair
This 7 April, the Formentera Office of Entrepreneurship will host the island's first Employment and Enterprise Fair (Fira d'Ocupació i Emprenedoria). The Fira was at the centre of a presentation given today by Ana Juan, President of the Consell de Formentera and Councillor of Entrepreneurship, together with co-organisers Dolors Roig, Island Director of the Eivissa-Formentera arm of the Balearic Employment Office (SOIB), and Pepe Salvador Puig, Director of the vocational training programme and the Entrepreneurship Classroom at Marc Ferrer Secondary School (IES Marc Ferrer). The Fira will be held at Jardí de ses Eres and Centre Antoni Tur 'Gabrielet' from 9.00am to 3.00pm and will have assorted spaces, from information tables staffed by representatives of companies presenting job offers, to training workshops for youth interested in starting a business.

President Juan expressed her satisfaction at seeing the initiative's inaugural edition come to life: "Our local administration is aware of the needs on both sides: of businesses, to find employees, and of workers, to find jobs that fit their skills, so the Office of Entrepreneurship promotes this fair in the hope it creates a space for synergies between companies and islanders without jobs". Juan confided that this Fira "comes from a desire to deliver continuity and a boost to every sector of the local job market", and encouraged workers and companies alike to participate.

Eight companies from the tourism and transportation sectors and a human resources company have signed up to offer jobs and conduct interviews, and the application period remains open. Collaborating entities also on hand will share information on employment and training.

The Director of SOIB Eivissa-Formentera applauded the Consell's impulse in the initiative, which she asserted would "strengthen connections between companies and workers", and said that SOIB representatives at a dedicated stand would "be there to inform, guide and advise people who need it".

Mr Salvador, for his part, welcomed the chance to "publicise the Entrepreneurship Classroom, which we believe is a basic tool for the economic and social growth of the island". He cast the Fira as "a great opportunity to showcase the educational offer at IES Marc Ferrer". Students of the basic vocational training course in cooking and catering will also be at the fair to provide catering.

National Geographic promotes Formentera to UK travellers

foto 2022 national geoThe Formentera Office of Tourism is pleased to report that yesterday National Geographic gave an online conference entitled "The other side of the Balearics" that was backed by Formentera. This presentation was aimed at travel reporters from the United Kingdom and hosted by the National Geographic magazine and website. In the words of Carlos Bernús, Director of Promotion, who participated, "this event allows us to reach a type of visitor with purchasing power who is keen on outdoor activities and conscious of sustainability, including environmental sustainability, at the destination they visit".

The presentation highlighted the advantages of visiting Formentera –an environment where one can be in near constant contact with nature– outside the months of summer, and touted the island's low-season offer of culture, sports, heritage and gastronomy. Participants also found out about initiatives like formentera.eco for a sustainable mobility and Save Posidonia Project to preserve posidonia seagrass and the local coastline, "as well as other actions being taken on our island to ensure that our visitors' experiences are unique", explained Bernús.

This presentation is included in Formentera's Strategic Promotion Plan, in which more promotional actions will be piloted in collaboration with a PR firm specialised in tourism and publicising Formentera to UK travellers. Bernús pointed out that the multitude of travel connections between the UK and the Balearic Islands, together with increasingly loose Covid travel restrictions, "has meant a spike in reservations to come to our destination".
