Consell joins the Family Skills Programme to foster parenting skills

The Formentera Office of Social Welfare and the Balearic Department of Social Affairs are pleased to offer local families with children aged 12 to 16 the chance to take part in the Family Skills Program (Programa de Competencia Familiar, PCF).

Rafael Ramírez, Councillor of Social Welfare, signalled that "this year, the social welfare office has joined PCF to give families –fathers, mothers, sons and daughters– the tools to improve family relationships, parenting skills and child behaviour, and to guard against problematic conduct like drug use".

The Family Skills Programme is geared toward families with dependent children aged 12 to 16. The programme accommodates all members of the family unit with a methodology based on scientific evidence. Staff provide parents with tools to prevent nascent problems from escalating, helping them to resolve conflicts democratically and work with youth to strengthen social skills.

The programme plays out in 14 sessions to be held in the Sala de Plens of the Consell de Formentera. The schedule is to be determined. To register, send an email to educaciosocial@conselldeformentera.cat or telephone 971.32.12.71 from 15 December to 15 January.

Father Christmas pops down from Lapland to offer Formentera kids a show and collect wish lists

foto 2021 Pare noelThe Formentera Office of Culture is pleased to announce that next Tuesday 21 December will bring one of local children's most anticipated events of the year: a visit from Santa Claus. Youngsters at the event will enjoy entertainment from ShowsIbiza.com and, afterwards, a visit from Father Christmas.

Attendees can choose from two sessions, 5.00pm and 7.00pm, at Formentera's Sala de Cultura (Cinema). Interested islanders must book tickets in advance on www.entradesformentera.cat and present an associated QR code at the door. The show is free of charge.

Susana Labrador, Councillor of Culture and Education, encouraged young ones not to miss the event, "which this Christmas is even more special after COVID-19 forced last year's show online".

Health and safety measures in place at the function mean children will not be able to go on stage to sit on Saint Nick's lap, but they will be able to pass along wish lists and letters through a mailbox at the entrance of the hall.

This Christmas, Ebri Knight will play at Formentera's Nit de Concerts

The Formentera Office of Culture is pleased to report that on Saturday 18 December, islanders can enjoy one of the highlights of the Christmas holidays with a concert from the Catalan group Ebri Knight in the festival tent of Sa Senieta car park in Sant Francesc. The free limited-capacity concert will start at 11.00pm, and reservations are not required.

Ebri Knight have a reputation for energetic live performances, political commitment and punk rocks ideals which come to life in the unusual combination of Mediterranean and Celtic musical traditions. The band have proven their performing chops at an array of venues including Razzmatazz, Madrid's Sala But and L'Aquelarre in Cervera.

Looking ahead to their stint on Formentera, Susana Labrador, Councillor of Culture and Festivals, encouraged islanders to come out for what promises to be a lively performance. Current COVID-19 regulations will be in place at Ebri Knight's concert and at every function on the holiday programme: attendees must wear masks at all times and may dance but not drink. Indeed, there will be no bar service, "but we hope to see a great deal of animation", said Councillor Labrador.

'Street'

Ebri Knight's fifth studio album, Carrer ("street"), was released in early 2021. After the EPLa voz dormida, the band continues to explore sounds and styles with the help of Valencian producer Mark Dasousa. Carrer is undoubtedly the band's most diverse work to date.

"The album is the result of the context in which we live; hence the title. The street is where we develop our lives, our relationships and our daily struggles; where we want to recover after months of lockdowns and social constraints", say representatives for the band.

Carrer cements the work started with the previous album and is the result of a year of production and painstaking work on the songs, eleven tracks that represent the ultimate distillation of Ebri Knight's trademark brand of folk.

Today, Ana Juan, President and Councillor of Entrepreneurship, met with the six newly hired members of Consell de Formentera staff. Recruited through SOIB Reactiva, the individuals will be employed by the municipal administration for the next six months.

Among the previously unemployed recruits, two are under 30 years old and will work as administrative assistant and brigade operator. The other four new hires are over 30 and came from situations of long-term unemployment; two will work as information assistants, one as a brigade operator and one as a cleaner.

President Juan told the new recruits she hoped that "their work experience with the Consell is immensely worthwhile and that it eases their re-entry to the labour market".

Plans are in place for a second round of recruitment, which will include positions for three people. 2021 SOIB Reactiva is backed by the SOIB and co-financed by the European Social Fund (part of Operational Programmes for 2014-2020 Youth and Regional Employment) and with state funds through the Sectoral Conference on Employment and Labour Affairs.
