Some twenty islanders interested in energy communities project

foto 2023iv vpp4The Office of Environment of the Consell de Formentera is pleased to report that roughly twenty people have shown interest in participating in the project to implement two energy communities on the island. This initiative is part of VPP4 Islands, a European project to promote innovative tech-driven renewable energies which Formentera joined in 2020. Homeowners as well as representatives of local businesses and the Hotel Federation came out for two meetings last Friday – at noon with the Intersectoral Association of Small and Medium-sized Entrepreneurs of Formentera (PIMEF) and in the afternoon with the general public.

Antoni Tur, environment councillor, described the meeting as "very constructive" and encouraged the people of Formentera to participate: "This test is a chance to move towards producing and using renewable energy, and will help to raise awareness among the population". Interested parties can contact the Office of Environment at vppiformentera@conselldeformentera.cat.

This March, 1,408 requests logged for summertime driving authorisation

foto 2023iv ecoThe Office of Mobility of the Consell de Formentera reports that during the month of March, 1,408 vehicles were cleared to be driven on local roads during the formentera.eco regulatory period, which will run this year from 1 June to 30 September. Of the 1,408 authorisations, 145 were requested by residents and the other 1,263 by visitors.

The figures represent a year-on-year uptick of 30%. Last March, 1,085 vehicles received the authorisation, 108 of which belonged to residents. In the words of Rafael González, mobility councillor, "these data show that formentera.eco is well-established and well-known, indicate a promising tourist season ahead and confirm the importance of this regulation".

In the plenary session yesterday, Friday, decision-makers handed definitive approval to a tax ordinance regulating formentera.eco fees. Formentera will now send news of the approval to the Official Gazette of the Balearic Islands (BOIB) and the new rate will take effect once announced in the BOIB. The Consell d'Entitats voted to set the daily rate at €6 for cars (€30 minimum) and €3 for motorcycles (€15 minimum). Until now, those requesting authorisation paid the 2022 rate: €3/day for cars (€15 minimum) and €1.50/day for motorcycles (€7.50 minimum).

Consell seeks volunteers to instal energy meters and form energy communities

The Office of Environment of the Consell de Formentera is working to implement two energy communities on the island. This initiative is part of VPP4 Islands, a project enlisting technological innovation to promote renewable energies in Europe, and one which Formentera joined in 2020. To continue developing the project, an information session is scheduled for Friday 31 March at 5.00pm in the Consell de Formentera conference room (Sala d'Actes, Plaça de la Constitució, 1).

For phase one of this project, the Consell is seeking volunteers from across the island to instal energy meters at homes and businesses. Installation is completely free of charge and will make it possible to track energy consumption with a smart-phone app. Participants need only commit to share the data that devices collect.

The info session will also serve to explain to attendees that they can be part of the energy communities that will be created with VPP4 Islands funding.

Antoni Tur, environment councillor, encouraged local homeowners and businesses to participate in the test, calling it "a chance to advance in renewable energy use and production and raise awareness among islanders".
