Consell begins steps to stabilise 242 administration posts

The human resources department of the Consell de Formentera is pleased to report that publication in the coming days of a related notice in the Official Bulletin of the Balearic Islands (BOIB) will mark the start of a process to stabilise 242 positions held by civil servants and other personnel across 59 groups and categories of the Consell de Formentera.

This process, as Paula Ferrer, councillor of human resources, put it, "is about ensuring job stability and that these positions become permanent". Councillor Ferrer traced the process to an agreement reached in May as part of negotiations with unions representing employees of local government. The councillor, who praised the involvement of the island's trade unions, said the special offer of employment stemmed from a piece of legislation, Act 20/2021, that involves urgent measures.

Online form, useful guide and info session
To make the process easier, a form is available at the Virtual Citizen Information Office (OVAC). In addition, a help service will be available by appointment at the Citizen Information Office (OAC) to assist people with their application. Interested parties need only fill out a form; no documents are required. Applications must be received twenty working days after the announcement is published in the BOIB. A useful guide will be made available to Consell de Formentera staff and can also be found on the website of the Consell de Formentera.

To highlight the ins and outs of the process, on Friday 11 November, the human resources office has scheduled an info session at the Sala de Cultura (Cinema).

The offer is open to all interested parties, whether or not they are employees of the Consell. It is not exclusive and any individual who meets the requirements may apply. Questions? Want more details? Contact the department of human resources by e-mail at selecciopersonal@conselldeformentera.cat or by phone.

foto 2022xi gala esport CAt the Formentera Sports Gala held today in the Sala de Cultura-Cinema, Formentera paid tribute to athletes, clubs, volunteers, sponsors and people who excelled in local sport in 2020 and 2021. Andrea Romero and Mateo Sanz were proclaimed the best male and female athletes of the last two years. The gala, which was presented by sports journalist Maria Mayans, featured demonstrations in karate, taekwondo and figure skating and was broadcast on the YouTube channels of the Consell de Formentera and IB3.

Additional accolades went to Club Bàsket Formentera, which was named best club, Cosmitos Deportivo and SD Formentera, best teams, and Helena Lafuente and Mateo Jiménez, most promising athletes. In addition, Alex Figueiras was celebrated for exemplary coaching; Agustí Moyà for most sportsmanlike values, and Maria del Carmen Costa for pre-eminent efforts to promote sport, with Trasmapi named the best sponsoring company.

Ana Juan, president of the Consell de Formentera, closed the ceremony. She applauded award recipients and framed the gala as, above all, acknowledgment for all those who make sport possible on the island. "Sport enriches us as a society. This is why we must never lose sight of its value as a social transformer and tool to boost participation, social integration and equality... Sport helps us eliminate barriers and overcome prejudices that, sadly, many still hold. The Consell de Formentera will continue fomenting sport and accentuating sportsmanlike values from the bottom up and in everything we promote".

For her part, Paula Ferrer, councillor of sport, praised the efforts of "the entire family that is Formentera sport, particularly during the challenging times of the pandemic". She also offered special kudos "to collaborating volunteers, without whom these events would be impossible".

After the ceremony, pupils of IES Marc Ferrer's cooking and services module served light food and drinks to award winners and the audience.

Formentera Sports Gala returns 5 November

The Formentera Office of Sports is pleased to announce that the Formentera Sports Gala will be held this year. The event, plans for which had been scuppered by the pandemic, returns Saturday 5 November at 6.00pm in the Sala de Cultura (Cinema).

Paula Ferrer, councillor of sports, described a revival of the tribute to the island's athletes, clubs, volunteers, sponsors and sports-lovers as "unfinished business". Ferrer insisted, "Besides recognising our athletes' achievements, this gala is about trumpeting sport as a nexus of union and social inclusion".

Honourees will include Best Model of Sportsmanlike Values, Most Promising Male and Female Athletes, Best Male and Female Athletes, Best Male and Female Teams and Best Coach, as well as best athlete in each local sport. Special mentions will also go the sponsoring entity that has most distinguished itself in promoting sport on the island, the most distinguished club or sporting association and the most prominent individual exponent of sport. Distinctions are based on the 2020/2021 season.

Formentera's sports clubs and associations proposed the nominations together with a panel comprising Councillor Ferrer, the municipal clerk, a Formentera Office of Sports manager, club representatives and a member of each political party with plenary representation on the Consell de Formentera.

Winners will receive a work of art by Silvia Jovani, a ceramics artist who worked for several years on the island and led the Consell's ceramics workshop.

Autumn sports calendar starts Saturday with Formentera Triathlon

foto 2022ix triatloToday Ana Juan, Alejandra Ferrer and Paula Ferrer (respectively, the president; vice president/councillor of tourism, and councillor of sports of the Consell de Formentera) presented the ninth Formentera Triathlon, scheduled this Saturday in Es Pujols. Playing out on its time-tested route, the event will include two modalities, sprint and Olympic. Participants in the former (750 m swim, 20 km bike and 5 km run) will start at 2.15pm, with participants in the latter (1,500 m swim, 40 km bike and 10 km run) setting out at 4.00pm. There will be individual and team events in both modalities. Also on hand at the presentation were Manuel Hernández, director of Unisport Consulting, the company organising the race, and Alex Marí, commercial director of Trasmapi.

President Juan pointed out that autumn on Formentera comes with a range of programming that reveals the island as an ideal setting for sporting events. She asserted, "Not only do these gatherings allow participants to enjoy the island through sport, but they also offer an image of the Formentera we want", and additionally praised the work of organisers, volunteers and collaborating companies.

Vice President Ferrer voiced hopes that "participants and their companions enjoy both the event and the island'', and described fall on Formentera as "an ideal time to see the island, learn more about our culture and heritage, relax and savour local food with the programming of «Discover Formentera in October».

Eco-friendly T-shirts with recycled plastic
For her part, the councillor of sports traced the Triathlon's burgeoning popularity in recent years to "the appeal of competing against the backdrop of our island's natural beauty". "We're in year nine", she pointed out, "and are confident that there will be many more". Councillor Ferrer also highlighted a new feature of this year's competition: "T-shirts made with environmentally sustainable thread crafted from recycled plastic".

Nearly 300 registered
Manuel Hernández underscored the commitment of "islanders and local government to sport and events like this, which put the island in the spotlight alongside major sporting competitions". He added that Formentera "offers a unique natural setting for such events" and held up the Triathlon's perennially high turnout as proof. So far 270 people have signed up to take part, with registrations due to continue until 29 September on www.triatlonformentera.com and till the day of the competition, 9.30am to 12 noon, at the bib collection table. Organisers expect to register three hundred participants.

The following roads will be closed to traffic between 1.30pm and 6.30pm: Carrer de s'Espalmador (from Sa Volta Hotel to the roundabout on the western side of Es Pujols), Carrer de s'Aigua Dolça, Carrer de Roca Plana, Carrer de Punta Prima and PM 820-2 (from the western roundabout to La Savina).
